The first day of our new life

OCTOBER

Thurs 11th
So our first day was a bit strange and they got us up sooooo early, we weren’t impressed at all. They then made us go outside and it was cold and damp - not like Greece:-) We got some breakfast in a bowl eat and had a water bowl, wasn’t really used to it but they seemed pleased with us both. It wasn’t too bad we went for a wee and had a poo. Dad then said goodbye he looked quite sad and went off to work.  We didn’t mind as mum was still here and she kept us company.  Mum tried to get us to sit for treats which we did a few times, although didn’t really understand her much. Mum kept trying to leave us in the kitchen for a bit but we knew she was in the room next door, we don’t know what that room is yet as they keep shutting us out.  Before dad came home we were given some more food in these bowls, was quite nice though but bit dry and crunchy. Mum and dad tried to take us for a walk (whatever that is) on our leads, we didn’t like it at all.  We only really stood outside and then we saw this other dog and both growled and barked at it. Not sure if we were protective or just scared. Mum and dad weren’t happy so they took us back in the garden and let us off our leads.  Tonight we slept in our crate with the door open as mum and dad felt we were being so good.

Fri 12th
Today dad got up but mum wanted a lay in so she was going to feed us later. We didn’t let her though as we howled a bit after dad went to work.  She wasn’t happy and came downstairs and opened the back door for us. We didn’t really want to go out and eventually she made our breakfast as she said she was awake now.  She went away again for an hour or so and left us in Kitchen, we tried to behave. We had a mad few minutes in the garden running around after she was up but she realised we didn’t eat our breakfast.  A nice lady came to meet us in the morning, she sat with us in the hallway and said we were lovely and gave us cuddles.  We liked her and mum said she was going to come in daily to see us when she was at work.  The postman posted some letters through the door and although we sniffed it, it was boring so we ignored it.  We barked and ran up the hall when we heard some loud noise outside, don’t know why we just did - mum laughed. There seems to be some loud machines in the kitchen but we don’t really mind them too much. When dad came home he was pleased and we wagged our tails.  Later that night they put us on our leads and put us in the car, we didn’t know where we were going. They took us to the VETS, which wasn’t too bad, although had to wait in the car for a long time as mum and dad didn’t want to take us in because there was lots of other dogs there. We were weighed and had some injections which were ok, but we didn’t like the kennel cough up our noses - we wriggled a bit but we got treats afterwards for being good boys. Mum and dad were so pleased with us that they let us in the room next door, it was the lounge and has a nice big chair for us to sit on with mum and dad. Because we were good we slept in our crate with the door open.

Sat 13th
We had a lovely lie in today:-) Well we got left for 2 hours on our own today, it was a bit strange especially as dad had taken our crate out the kitchen but left our bed.  We had a bit of rough and tumble and knocked over the kitchen bin, dad wasn’t very happy when he came home, but it wasn’t our fault really. Mum and dad bought us new beds though and we love them, they are very comfy.  We don’t sleep in them at night, we still like our crate as its our place of safety.  It was a lovely sunny day so we played in the garden with dad. Dad also let us into the lounge again today- we had a sniff around, but we did keep getting told “no” quite a few times.  We even managed to get on the sofa, don’t think mum was impressed to start off with. Today was a good day mum and dad both at home and we had fun. We also had a late night and we were very tired.

Sun 14th
It was raining today and we didn’t want to go outside, but mum and dad said we had to. We kept getting our paws dried when we came back in the kitchen. Mum and dad kept talking about going for a walk but we don’t know what this is.

Mon 15th
So today starts our new routine as mum and dad have to go to work.  We don’t like being left, but we mostly sleep all day so its not too bad.  We see dad first and he gives us our breakfast and we have a run around the garden, then mum comes downstairs and we get a fuss.  After a while mum and dad go out and leave us but we are very good and don’t bark or howl, they leave the radio on for us so its not too bad. We have some nice ladies come in to see us at lunchtime, they let us out into the garden for a wee and a poo and give us some fresh water.  They start to try to get us to sit down and when we do we get treats. We can’t wait for mum to come home though every day and we jump and wag our tails when we see her.  We get our dinner before dad gets home but can’t wait to see him either.  We have a little play and more treats before bed time and cuddles with mum and dad.

Tues 16th
Nice lady bought another lady to meet us today so she may be coming to visit us too. She was ok, we like all the fuss from people.  Hmm when dad got home today they tried to get us into harness’. Don’t mind the blue colour but don’t like the harness going over head. Charlie doesn’t mind too much but Bobby hates it.

Weds 17th
Hmm dad took Charlie out on lead today but they weren’t out long.  I didn’t even notice as mum was tickling my belly. Charlie was very excited when he got back though.

Thurs 18th
Well mum and dad took us both out round the block tonight. Charlie was in his harness and Bobby had lead.  It was dark but we didn’t see anyone.  They kept saying we were good, so thats something. We got treats when we got home too.

Fri 19th
Lady didn’t come to see us until bit later today, she put our harness’ on before she let us out but it wasn’t too bad, she gave us treats too and said she’d see us next week. Mum and Dad took us out for a walk around the block again.  It was warmer and lighter today. We didn’t like th either dogs we saw and growled at them. We got told off and mum and dad explained that we had been rescued. We don’t think they were happy and said we had to learn more. We still got treats when we got home although dad shouted at us when we pawed the sofa, although he soon chilled and we had cuddles.

Sun 21st

Happy Birthday Dad - 10th October 2018 - Our new life

Well today we were put into travel crates by the lovely charity lady and we were taken to Rhodes airport, we were sad to leave the nice lady and she was sad to see us go I think but she was so happy that our new mum and dad had agreed to adopt us together as we didn’t want to be split up.

We didn’t really like the plane ride but it wasn’t too bad, we came over with another 5 animals all cats and after we’d landed around 21.30hours into LGW we were let out our crates and checked over that we were all OK after flying.

After a couple of hours we were put on our leads again and were taken out to this little room and there we saw our new mum and dad again.  They had big beaming smiles on their faces and gave us loads of cuddles. What was nice was that it was our dads birthday, we were so happy that he didn’t mind driving all the way to pick us up, but we hoped he was having a lovely day meeting us again.

We were taken outside (it was much colder than in Greece), we were a bit disorientated and weren’t sure of what was happening.  We were put in the back of the little car with dad - it was a bit squashed as the little car had to fit our travel crates in it as well.  Our mum drove us to our new home, we didn’t sleep on the journey home but we didn’t move around too much and dad was pleased I think.

It must have been quite late or early hours of the morning when we got to our new home, we don’t really remember that much.  We were led inside this house and through into what we now know as the kitchen.  We had some water which was put in this bowl on the floor and we were given some nice treats as we were starving as we’d only had a little breakfast in the morning. Our mum and dad had put this create in the kitchen it had a lovely blue bed inside for us. We were a bit wary to start off with but eventually we were so tired that we went inside and fell asleep dreaming of our new life in our new home.

Our Rhodes Story

We are Charlie and Bobby and started our lives in Falaraki, Rhodes, Greece but are now living in Essex in the UK with a lovely mum and dad and have a much better life being loved and fed.  We did have a Greek family but it was very hard and we didn’t have much love or food, we didn’t play and just roamed the wasteland scrounging. We are related to each other along the way somehow, Uncle (Charlie) and Nephew (Bobby) so they say.

A few months into 2018 an English lady started visiting us down the street where we were left to roam, we gradually started to trust her more, she was nice and we enjoyed her cuddles and she fed us too.

Eventually the lady managed to persuade the Greek family that we would be better rescued and a Charity would help us to get a new family.

We were taken to another nice lady just outside Faliraki and she took us to a vet and fed us.  We were both a little poorly with Tick Fever, Fleas and ear infections and we were both castrated and put on antibiotics. The nice lady that found us originally then got her clippers out and gave us a good groom, so we looked fabulous:-) and very cute even if we say so ourselves.  We were put in a big outside kennel together with water, food, towels, toys and beds.  There were other dogs there too, but we just ignored them really. The kind lady called us Charlie and Bob and took a few photos of us too.

Apparently our pictures were put on a Facebook Page Rhodes to UK Animal Adoption Services and our new mum and dad saw us. We were told they were coming to Rhodes on holiday and would come to see us, we were quite excited.

On Sunday 16th September our new mum and dad came to visit, we were a little wary to start off with but they were very nice and stayed with us for a few hours before they left. Now all we had to do was keep our paws crossed.
